Site Health Safety & Environment Manager

JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for the implementation of the Princes Limited Safety, Health & Environmental Policy across the Cardiff site.
DIMENSIONS
Safety, Health & Environmental responsibility across Cardiff.
Approx 140 staff on site.
Factory operates 24hrs a day over 7 days.
£30k site control budget for PPE.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensure systems are established which seek to promote and improve Safety, Health and Environment on the Cardiff site.
Ensure systems for auditing and reviewing SH&E performance are in place and are being adhered to.
Manage SH&E systems and oversee current Princes Limited policy.
Ensure risk assessments are in place and develop corrective actions where required.
Provide advice and guidance to line managers on all aspects of SH&E, where appropriate.
Manage effectively the environmental strategy for the Cardiff site and ensure compliance with set standards.
Deliver safety training as appropriate.
Assist the General Manager with managing site waste and continually review to achieve cost reduction and improvements in respect of environmental impacts such as recycling etc.
Devise and implement Safety, Environmental and Security project improvements.
Submission of capital expenditure projects in respect of Safety, Health & Environmental improvements.
To review all costs in relation to safety and environment issues and reduce where possible.
Conduct accident investigations and report accordingly.
Produce on a weekly and monthly basis appropriate statistical information for Divisional and Group reporting purposes.
Evaluate new process/machines and liaise with the engineering and production departments to design safe working methods.
Conduct work place and work station audits.
Chair site safety committee meetings.
Manage the First Aid and Fire Warden activities across the site to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
Contribute to the health & safety of self and others by applying health and safety principles to the required standards whilst undertaking designated tasks.
These are the key daily tasks, not a comprehensive list of all tasks undertaken by the jobholder. Flexibility is required by the business & this will be agreed with the individual’s line manager.
All employees should carry out their duties in a responsible manner giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, which are part of the Integrated management System. Specific responsibilities can be found at section 4.4.1.5 of the Health & Safety Management System.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
1) Demonstrable experience in a SH&E Role within a manufacturing environment.
2) Driving change in Safety, Health and Environment.
3) Experience in ensuring full legislative compliance.
4) Experience in writing, maintaining and developing a SH&E Management system.
5) Experience in the design and delivery of SH&E training.
6) Experience in maintaining accurate SH&E records including filing, database and archiving systems
DESIRABLE
7) Experience in a SH&E role within a food manufacturing environment.
8) Experience in implementing and maintaining Business Improvement techniques.
9) Line Management experience.
10) Be competent in all of the major computer packages i.e. Microsoft office.
11) Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills which are essential for effectively dealing with internal departments, regulators and staff.
12) Be flexible in their working hours to ensure that the site’s SH&E requirements are met.
13) Be literate and numerate to a level required to ensure KPI information can be prepared and understood
14) Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
15) Have experience of the SAP system, however full training will be provide
16) Possess a NEBOSH H&S Certificate
17) Understanding the tools and techniques to deliver effective manual handling training.
18) Understanding of Equal Opportunities and anti-discrimination practices
19) Possess a suitable IEMA environmental qualification or similar.
20) Be aware of company policy regarding; Quality, Environment, Occupational Health and Safety and Personal Hygiene.
