Sustainability
Products
Most of our packaging is widely recyclable, with steel cans – our primary format – offering high recycling rates and circularity. We’ve increased recycled content across our portfolio, including 100% recycled plastic in Napolina Olive Oil bottles, and continue to explore reusable systems through industry collaboration and innovation.
Nutrition is central to our purpose. Our core categories – fish, pulses, vegetables, fruit, and oils – support healthy, balanced diets and remain unaffected by HFSS regulations. We’re proud to deliver nutritious, affordable food to millions of families every day, and we’ll continue to evolve our products responsibly to meet changing needs and expectations.
Circular Economy
We’re committed to making seafood – a natural, low-carbon source of protein – available for generations by sourcing responsibly and using our influence across markets, supply chains, and with global fisheries regulators to drive lasting, positive change.
With a heritage dating back to 1880, Princes has long been a trusted name in seafood sourcing. While we don’t own fishing vessels, responsible sourcing is central to our sustainability strategy. We require suppliers to follow International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) Conservation Measures and never accept fish linked to illegal, unreported, or unregulated activity.
We view the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label as the gold standard for sustainable fishing, driving transparency, protecting fish stocks, and building consumer trust.
That’s why we prioritise sourcing from MSC-certified fisheries or those engaged in Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) working toward certification.
Nutrition
We play a vital role in delivering nutritious, affordable food to millions of families every day. Our core categories—fish, pulses, vegetables, fruit, and seed and olive oils—are the foundations of a healthy diet. Unlike much of the industry, recent UK legislation on high fat, salt, or sugar (HFSS) foods has not impacted our portfolio, reflecting its healthy nature.
Our products support the NHS recommendation of five portions of fruit, vegetables, or pulses daily. Pulses are high in fibre, and our canned wild-caught fish is a great source of Omega-3. None of our branded soft drinks contain added sugar—sweetness comes only from natural fruit.
We are concerned about proposed changes that would classify pure fruit juice as HFSS. Juice contains only naturally occurring sugars and is the largest contributor to “1 of 5 a day” portions in the UK. Penalising a product with clear nutritional value risks sending the wrong message and could harm public health.
